ADRA Kyrgyzstan held a round table to discuss problems of pensioners

Held a round table named “Inclusive right of the elderly for aging with dignity in Kyrgyzstan” with the participation of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, representatives of the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Education, Municipality of Bishkek, the leaders seniors of self-help groups, non-governmental organizations.

The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss the problems of elderly people in Kyrgyzstan, such as access to information, additional sources of income of pensioners, education, and improvement of legislation to protect the rights of older citizens.

“We need the help on the national level for elderly people. It is necessary to increase our state budget funds for providing the needs of seniors”- said Natalia Nikitenko, the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Within the framework of the round table the elderly were able to speak and tell to the representative of the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh about the difficulties encountered in their life.

“We do not know about our rights and become victims of scams and black realtors. Elderly people do not always receive the necessary information about the opportunities and rights that our government could give to us”- shared Dollores B., a pensioner from the village of Besh-Kungei.

Also, at the round table was discussed the possibility of support for elderly peoples’ education from the state.

“The Third Age Institute should become a commonplace throughout the country. Elderly people want to acquire new knowledge, learn and evolve to keep pace with the times “- shared Gulyar Ruzbaeva, a student of the Third Age Institute.

Round table was organized by the humanitarian agency ADRA Kyrgyzstan with the financial support of «DCA Central Asia».
